Ivo, nice to see you here, and thanks for the comment.
I understand that "here and now" in Zagreb, Croatia, it might be difficult to sell cloud computing. It all seems to be in one huge beta, after all, and that's what makes it so hypish. But that doesn't make cloud computing any less real--it's slowly evolving, it might still be a bit ahead of its time, but in a few years, I believe it will be everywhere.
Cloud computing brings a paradigm shift, from boxes we are so used to having around our offices, that we all perfectly understand what to do with, to some virtual concept such as "Cloud computing", that we have no clue what to do about. We know how to lay cabling, write code, deploy, sell, support, etc. physical computers and software solutions. We have no clue how to do this with Cloud computing. That's precisely why I compared it with the breakthrough that trans-oceanic steamboat brought to international trading. Those poor guys from Orebić haven't seen anything beyond hype, simply because they knew how to sail, they understood the wind, but they didn't understand the steam and the machines. Yes, I admit, there might be a lot of hype behind "cloud computing", but there is a lot of reality behind customers asking for hosted. Customers are ready to give up on their own infrastructure, and to outsource the IT, simply because it does make sense. Cloud computing is the logical next step.
I've heard a joke about cloud computing. Everybody in IT knows these two quotes: first by Thomas Watson of IBM that "there is a world market for maybe five computers", and the second by Bill Gates that "640 KB should be enough for everybody." Now it seems that both of them might have been right.

Hej Vjeko!
The post brings back fond memories of beautiful Pelješac and the wonderful town of Orebić, with the old stone houses of the sailing captains.
Back to today, however, your post reads like a well-penned piece from high-tech trendology. However, I remain quite sceptical as to how relevant this is for *my* customers (current and prospective) on the ground "here and now" in Zagreb, Croatia. For a somewhat extended comment, take a look at http://extweeme.wordpress.com/2009/02/19/so-this-is-real-life/
Keep up the good work on the blog!

Vibor: Thanks, I hope it worked for you. I'm sorry I couldn't make it there :-(
Tihomir: I hope you liked more than "shebang for peanuts" :-) So, did you get a chance to read about Azure?

Vjeko, I am SO going to refer to this post today during my presentation. Software + Services and Azure as well are something that Microsoft will IMHO invest significant resources in near-term future.

Hehe-nice article-love the comparison and phrases like "shebang for peanuts". Although I still haven't read about Azure the idea seems quite interesting.
Keep up the good work!
